September 2024 update. Not a great tale. Is there Light :~? Part 1.

Howdy Friends.

i truly hope you are keeping well and have had a fantastic growing season up 'til thenoo. i begin writing this at 02:30am BST (British Summer Time) on Thursday 05th September 2024.

As the title may suggest, the year thus far hasn't been a year of success for me on the allotment. With my health being poor for most of the year, the desire to get stuck in was impaired by the inability to so. To do anything physical was indeed, a mighty challenge beyond my available energy.

anyway,... i'm not a total "WOE IS ME!" kinda guy. It's September. that's it! it's September. There are positives because the year isn't over. i have a new found energy...

It's September which means there are still a few months free of frost or freezing temperatures that may prove to be quite an exciting time to attempt to grow a harvest of something this year. i'm thinking that it may not be too late too plant quick growing greens such as lettuce, kale, spinach, chard, collards or spring greens, any looser-leafed cabbage, beetroot and turnip leaves plus radishes, potatoes, bush beans, peas and carrots. There, is one positive.

One other positive is my seed order from Yorkshire Seeds. i discovered them on Ebay although they do retail from a website at Yorkshire Seeds. Please note that there is no affiliation link between myself and Yorkshire Seeds. i simply value their service and am supporting them for the benefit of the smaller business.

Another positive is my intention to visit the plot today and to give a videoed update, which is needed as part of the first video to be published on my YouTube channel - RiK's Allotment & Gardening Exploits.

Some seeds that can be sown in September can be found in the YouTube playlist - SEED SOWING SEPTEMBER Allotment Gardening.

Some gardening jobs that can be done in September can be found in the YouTube playlist - JOBS FOR SEPTEMBER Allotment Gardening.

That, my Friends, will do for now. i will update soon. If it's today, it will probably be edited into this post. It may, however, be published as a Part 2. we will see.

The importance of beginning a 'healthy lifestyle' earlier in life, such as from birth for example, is paramount, although we shouldn't live with regret that we've been misfed by 'the system', literally, all of our lives. Simply begin a more healthy option now. This includes what we eat and what we do.

Love and Blessings to one and all. With Thanks and all Praise to our Lord Christ Jesus.

And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day. Genesis 1:11-13

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:29-31

POTATO REVEAL 'BLAST FROM THE PAST' DEBBIES INCREDIBLE SPUD CROP 7th August 2011

In the challenge between Debbie and Debbie's dad, 'Who Can Grow The Most Potatoes In One Bag 2011?', neglect seems to have had a predictable effect on Debbie's overall harvest. With the amount of soil in the rather large bag, we were hoping for at least ten kilos.

"did we achieve this unscientifically (AKA 'ssschhhmientifically') deduced expectation?"

For optimum viewing clarity and pleasure, watch this video on YouTube to see the result.

Some lessons learned, although the reveal, as all reveals are?, was both exciting and fun.

Visit 'RiK's Allotment & Gardening Exploits' on YouTube

Pretty much the hub of my allotment and gardening information harvesting and community interaction takes place either on my allotment with other plot holders or on YouTube via my channel

'RiK's Allotment & Gardening Exploits'.

As a 'non-telly' household, getting my 'fix' of gardening programs and updates plus un-censored current gardening and farming affairs is a must, particularly in these uncertain times of food scarcity with impending starvation-en-mass looming on the horizon, huge increases in food costs, impacted heavily by rising fuel prices plus a war on the 'home-grower', 'small business', 'off-gridder' and 'self-sustainer' by the corporate industry monopolised, centralised world government not-so-secretly-known-as 'The World Government Of Food and Everything', in what is becoming commonly termed #FoodWorldWar

For an up-to-date look at crucial news as i hear of it, check out the channel Playlist:

CROPS FOR 2024 - Part 1 LEGUMES

Howdy friends. With the time for 'direct-sowing-in-the-ground' almost upon me here in Mid-South-West England (zone 9b) due to the 'anticipated' 'last frost date' drawing rapidly nearer (30th April according to this useful map United Kingdom Average Last Frost Date Map (plantmaps.com), i feel it time to share some of the crops i'm hoping to grow this year. As a Plantivore, i'll kick-off with one main staple (and storeably stable) nutritious food for me, that being the Legume, a rich source of plant-protein and minerals with the added bonus that the simple-to-dry legumes are highly suitable and prized for long-term storage.

Now, a Legume ('Legume' refers to a plant from the family of plants Fabaceae) is the edible fruit or seed of the plant and includes beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, et cetera. Dried 'Legumes' are called 'Pulses'.
